Welcome to Cathedral House!

Take a walk down the middle school hallway, and you will be welcomed by six banners representing our house system for the middle school. The bright red banners brighten the hallway proclaiming the six houses that make up Cathedral House. Sacred people provide the six house names: Joseph, Therese, John Paul II, Xavier, Gabriel, and George. Each banner contains a motto, both in English and Latin. A sea of color now brings a special look to our Wednesdays, as students don bright house shirts in colors coordinating with their house. Students were “sorted” into multi-grade houses at the beginning of the year where they will remain in their house all three years of middle school. House meetings give students a chance to meet new peers, work together to accomplish tasks, and demonstrate house/school spirit. Two eighth grade students serve as captains of each house. House captains cheer on their respective house, make sure others are included, and help collect and count the monthly point sheets. Captains accept the responsibility of taking care of the house. Each house meeting is planned by members of the middle school faculty, who serve as mentors for the houses.

Students receive points for participating in many events tied to Christ the King parish and school. The house sheets reflect positive choices made by students as they participate in school and Sunday masses acting as prayer leaders through various services, including serving and singing. Students who attend The Edge will receive weekly points. Participation in athletics, extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and service opportunities awards points to a house. Honor roll, being on time to school, and good behavior are also awarded house points. My favorite part of the point sheet is the monthly Principal’s Challenge. Students this month must decorate a pumpkin to receive points from the principal. Each student must have the signature of the person leading the activity for points in that area to count. At the end of the month, the house with the most points will receive a reward.
